ARTUZ Court Update

18 December 2020

ARTUZ President Obert Masaraure has been acquitted today at Masvingo Magistrates Court, where he was accused of participating in a gathering with the intention to cause public violence on 22 June 2020.

On a sad note Masvingo Provincial Secretary for Gender and Welfare cde Sheila Chisirimunhu has been convicted of the same charges. However Magistrate Ndlovu failed to deliver the sentence on cde Sheila’s case today. He’s still to make up his mind, sentence to be delivered on Monday 21 December at 0830.

The state is proving being reasonable doubt that it is trying to break the spirit of our members and female activists. Cde Sheila Chisirimunhu never committed a crime

As Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ we demand justice for cde Sheila Chisirimunhu, it is not a crime to fight for teachers rights. The government should focus on deliverying it’s mandate of paying teachers a living wage and providing inclusive quality education, rather than targeting our members and female activists.

We want to thank our members and citizens who gave solidarity to our leaders today in court. Let’s continue to stand with cde Sheila Chisirimunhu and demand justice for her.

#FreeSheilaChisirimunhu
