29 December 2020
The veteran teacher cde Sheila Chisirimunhu completed a week behind bars on Monday 28 December 2020(yestaday). I managed to pay a visit to the true soldier of the teachers struggle at mutimurefu in the company of her daughter’s Tari and Patience. Sheila’s only crime is that she is calling for the restoration of a USD 520 salary for teachers. A mother of five’s argument was that a USD30 that she got as salary in June 2020 was not enough to take her through a single week. The USD30 slave wage could not meet her medical bills for 5 days.
Sheila argues that her incarceration was misplaced ,misguided and brutal. She is ready to soldier on, fight for her unconditional release and acquittal at the same time. Sheila feels the ruling was descriminatory in nature considering that they were two accused person a male and a female and the learned male magistrate chose to convict the female leader. She is clear that both were supposed to be acquitted not the other way round.
Members of the Amalgamated Rural Teacher’s Union of Zimbabwe, Teacher’s Can’t breath movement, like minded teachers across all the Unions and parents are calling for a No Sheila-No work campaign as they apply an injure to one is an injury to all phylosophy.
‘ ….I can bent but will never break….’ the 53 year old teacher whispered as I was being pushed by the prison guards to leave. Sheila waved with a left fist👊 and I left with more energy to fight for the freedom of woman trade unionist.
The incarceration of a 30 year experienced widow-teacher is a challenge to all trade unionists in zimbabwe. The right to protest is about to die a natural death and this nonsense has to be challenged. There is no better time and chance for us to fight from one end than at this point in time.
Madam Chisirimunhu is also expecting the First lady Auxilia Munangagwa to also sign the online petition that is calling for her unconditional release.
Red salute to the ZLHR for the effort they are channelling towards the release of an innocent widow.
Victory is certain
